I hate when legitimately good films get branded with the “gay movie” label. Fuck. Patrik Age 1.5 isn’t really even a “gay movie,” in that it’s not a coming-of-age film, it’s not about a budding gay romance, etc. It doesn’t have a lot of the big tropes that “gay movies” have. I mean, yes it’s about a gay couple and yes a lot of the conflict in the movie stems from that, but it’s actually just a great piece of cinema in a mainstream way. You laugh, you cry, you b’aww until your face falls off, and anyone who likes stories about families/fatherhood could enjoy it.

I’m tired society saying THIS IS FOR GAYS about anything remotely queer-related. Maybe it’s for anyone who wants to enjoy it.
