the question is
why didn’t kurt get a dream sequence scene
where he’s kissing blaine
as well????????
Because he’s not the one who attempted suicide????????
I mean please tell me you’re jokinglol except
this isn’t about klaine
this is about the fact that
a) the glee creators created a situation where suicide was exploited in order to gain better ratings and in order to bring redemption to a character that truly hasn’t gone through the processed necessary for that to be an earned act
b) I just want you to understand that
THIS ISN’T ABOUT KLAINE
THIS IS ABOUT THE NARRATIVE CHOICES OF THE GLEE WRITERS
AND THE FACT THAT
KURT HUMMEL
THE VICTIM TO KAROFSKY’S BULLYING
HAS RECEIVED NO AGENCY IN THIS STORYLINE AT ALL
BECAUSE APPARENTLY CREATING A CONTRIVED REDEMPTION STORYLINE FOR A CHARACTER THAT ASSAULTED ANOTHER CHARACTER
IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN ANYTHING ELSE
BECAUSE GOD FORBID THE NON HEGEMONIC MASCULINITY IS REINFORCED FOR ONCE
GOD FORBID YOU AREN’T STRAIGHT PASSING AND ATTEMPT TO HAVE A GOOD LIFE
c) the glee writers make the narrative choices and THIS IS THE STORYLINE THEY CHOOSE TO REINFORCE. don’t get confused please. they decided to be exploitative because honestly, this episode makes no sense narratively and it’s irresponsible story telling. I’m not trivializing suicide. especially not suicide related to homophobic acts. but to pat the glee writers on the back for this? and act like it’s not TOTALLY CONTRIVED? is bullshit.
Wow you missed the entire point of all this didn’t you
yeah, you did
Glee is trying to show what actual people go through, the fact that gay teens attempt suicide every fucking day. How that doesn’t make sense to YOU is literally beyond me. It fits perfectly. Nick saw him out and about with Kurt and then told his entire school about Dave being gay.
So, Dave attempts suicide because his whole entire school found out, and you heard what his mother said about him. And yet, this somehow relates back to the fact that you want Kurt to get a dream sequence about his future with Blaine? I mean how out of place would that be in a time like this jfc.
Kurt gave Dave hope, hope that yeah, his life can get better. Actual people were there for Kurt when he was getting bullied - and no one was there for Dave. Thankfully Kurt stepped in afterwards to let Dave know that things will get better. Dave is the one who DESERVED that short little dream sequence, right then and there. He needed it to know that he will have a happy future someday. Kurt already is set with Blaine and he’s happy. So why would he need a dream sequence?
lol wow. no, if anyone missed the point of this it was you. see this is where the disconnect is I think. because glee isn’t trying to highlight what actual kids go through. that’s what they want you to think is happening. they want you to think that they’re being progressive and tackling relevant social issues, but they’re honestly not. as much as I wish they were they’re not. they honestly don’t care about kurt or blaine or dave or santana or brittany or any of the other queer kids on their show. if they did, they would actually create storylines that treat them ALL with respect and personal agency. but they haven’t and they won’t and they don’t.
what they’re really doing is exploiting a situation many queer kids go through, for a ratings boost. I’m sorry, but this show isn’t about karofsky. at least not anymore. the writers made specific narrative choices, and in this case, they decided to create a situation to tell this story. and I understand that all storylines are created by the writers. but in this case? it was made specifically to be emotionally exploitative.
BASICALLY
I’m not mad dave got his dream sequence. and I’m not saying that kurt should have gotten his dream sequence in the same scene as well. in fact I think having two dream sequences in that hospital scene would have confused everything more than it already was. what I’m really saying is this
a) it’s unfortunate that glee had to take suicide caused by homophobia and turn it into some really gross and problematic PSA, while at the same time not actually offering actual, safe, solutions to dealing with suicidal thoughts and tendencies
b) it’s unfortunate that the straight passing character who embodies more of hegemonic masculinity than the other gay characters is allowed (by the network and by extension society) to fantasize/even be shown to be in a serious relationship with a man that includes a child and the sexualized element of kissing, while the other gay characters have no such scenes being written for them, for the past ten episodes.
c) I’m sick of having to imply the happiness of kurt, in himself and in his relationship, when other straight characters or characters who embody more of a normative masculinity are EXPLICITLY SHOWN TO BE HAPPY
d) glee writers are irresponsible and not only should they have warned for this episode for the many people triggered by it, but they also should really sit down and think about what they’re doing
